Internet Marketing Tips – What To Do When You’re Clueless

It’s one thing to ask for some tips on email marketing, or maybe how to set up an autoresponder, but what do you do when somebody is so clueless that they ask questions like, “How do I think of something to sell?” Naturally, somebody who asks a question like this doesn’t even have a general basis or foundation on which to build. It would kind of be like me going to somebody and asking them how to build a bridge when I have no clue about engineering or even where to go to learn. Unfortunately, in these cases, there is only one answer you can give these people.

    Go to school and learn.

But where does an Internet marketer go to learn? There are no colleges that I know of, at least not in my neck of the woods that even recognizes Internet marketing as a legitimate way to do business, let alone teach it. So formal education is pretty much out of the question. As for self help books, like the kind I sell, to be quite honest, if you’re so clueless that you don’t even know how to go about the thought process of putting together a product or even understanding what makes people want to buy anything, then that is probably the first place to start.

You need to get into the head of the average everyday human being.

The easiest way to do this is to take a look at yourself. What do YOU like? What makes YOU buy something? While everybody is going to be different, we all have basic things in common when it comes to buying anything. It basically comes down to quality of life. We buy something because we think it will make our life better in some way. In the case of the teen suffering from acne, he buys some acne cream because he wants that cute gal sitting across from him in chemistry class to like him.

Once you can get into the head of the person you want to sell to, you can then work on providing that particular solution that will make his life a little better.

But we still need to come up with a basis for a product, or a niche. How do we do that?

I find that the easiest way is simply to write down all the things that YOU are interested in. Take a look at the items that you yourself buy and answer the question, why. Why do you buy them? If you find that you have an interest that other people also have, maybe you can come up with a product to cater to that interest. For example. Let’s say that you play guitar really well. Maybe you can write your own book on learning the guitar, especially if you have some methods that you came up with on your own that might help others.

The point is, you MUST look within yourself and understand what makes YOU tick before you can figure out what makes other people tick.

Once you’ve done that, the rest is a whole lot easier.
