    Internet Marketing Tips – Why You Can’t Sell Your Way Out of a Paper Bag

    I’m just going to come right out and say it. Some marketers can’t sell their way out of a paper bag. The reasons are many and varied. This article is going to go over a few of those many reasons. These are the ones I feel are the most important. If you can conquer these demons, you might just be able to sell your way out of that paper bag and then some.

    At the top of my list, and probably the biggest problem most marketers have, is that they don’t take the time to REALLY understand their target market. They don’t know what makes these people tick. Think of it this way. You can’t sell vegetables to a kid who hates them if you simply focus on the fact that those vegetables are healthy. The kid doesn’t care. What the kid DOES care about is being able to get dessert AFTER dinner. So you focus on the reward for eating vegetables…or what the person ultimately wants from the product their buying. Once you understand this, selling becomes a whole lot easier.

    Second on my list of problems is learning to communicate. It’s one thing to know what your target market wants, but it’s another thing to know how to actually reach that market with words that do the job of sucking cash out of the prospect’s wallet. And the plain truth is, not everybody is blessed with the gift of salesmanship in print. The mistake these people make is either that they don’t take the time to learn how to write ads OR, if they have no desire to do so, they don’t hire a professional to write those ads for them. As a result, they slug their way through the process…ultimately leading to disaster.

    Finally, there is the problem of not understanding each advertising medium. They aren’t all the same, in spite of what you might think. Some advertising avenues work better for some niches than others. For example, as effective as article writing is for many niches, a niche like golf, especially if you’re giving the prospect golfing instruction, is probably better served by video. After all, what would you rather do…read an article on how to swing a golf club or watch a video showing the correct swing?

    If marketers could just get those three things down, the other minor problems that crop up would simply be small bumps in the road instead of major road blocks.

    If you can’t sell your way out of a paper bag, master these three things and you’ll be well on your way to becoming a master marketer.
