Internet Marketing Tips – Y is For Yahoo
Filed under: Home Business, Internet Marketing, Make Money Online; Tagged as: internet marketing strategies, internet marketing strategy, strategic internet marketingNo CommentsIt’s hard to believe that we’re almost finished with our Internet marketing A-Z series. In this installment, we’re tackling the letter Y. And what better thing to tackle than our friendly Yahoo. I remember back when Yahoo first started up and they were showing those silly commercials on TV. Hard to believe how big they’ve become. Well, there are things you can do to take advantage of Yahoo and take your marketing to the next level. This article explains.
Yahoo is a search engine, for those of you who didn’t know that. And while Google may be the big boy in town, Yahoo still gets a fair amount of traffic. While Google, according to February 2009 traffic stats, got 72.11% of all traffic, Yahoo still came in at a respectable 17.52%. Imagine if you got an extra 17% traffic each month by concentrating some efforts on Yahoo. Think that wouldn’t make a big difference in your bottom line. Think about it. If you’re getting 10,000 visitors a month, that’s an extra 1,700 visitors. I certainly wouldn’t sneeze at that. If you convert even just 2% of them to buyers on a $97 sale, that’s an extra $3,300 a month income…or over $36,000 a year.
So how can we take advantage of Yahoo? Well, a great way is through their own pay per click program similar to Google’s AdWords program. They run basically the same except there is one very big difference that most people don’t realize. Because Yahoo doesn’t get the kind of traffic that Google gets, their pay per click costs, even for some of the most competitive keywords, are much lower than Google’s. This is a great way to test out a campaign at Yahoo at a low cost. Then, if it turns out to convert well, you can transfer the campaign over to Google and run it there.
How else can we take advantage of Yahoo? Well, there are the generic search results themselves. No reason why we can’t try to get ourselves indexed in Yahoo as well. The procedure is pretty much the same. Best way to do this is to create an XML site map of your site and submit it to Yahoo. This will get you indexed a lot faster. Do NOT go through those SE blasters that blast your URL to all these search engines. That is the quickest way to getting your site banished to the black hole of the Internet.
Yahoo is not the biggest game in town, however, they shouldn’t be ignored. I certainly wouldn’t sneeze at 17% more traffic to my site and either should you.
