Internet Marketing Tips – You May Not Like Rules But Follow Them

I get a lot of people telling me that we live in a world where we have too many rules. Big government is too big and they’re smothering the life out of us. Well, maybe and maybe not. And maybe we do have too many rules and maybe you don’t like them. And that’s fine. You have every right not to like rules. But when it comes to Internet marketing and making money online in general, whether or not you like the rules is irrelevant. If you don’t follow them, you’re going to end up in a boat load of trouble. This article will point out a few areas where this is very true.

Let’s start with Ezine Articles itself, where you are probably reading this article. They have rules. They are clearly spelled out. Anybody who takes the time to read them will be able to see exactly what they are. You may not like them but, and this is the important thing, failure to follow these rules will result in your articles being rejected and possibly your account being closed. What does this mean for you as a marketer? It means that your message doesn’t get out to others. Ultimately that means less money in your pocket.

What about forums? It’s funny how so many people feel that because we live in a world of free speech that we should be able to say and do anything we want at a marketing forum. Well, news flash…it isn’t so. Forums have rules. Some will allow affiliate links in your signature and some will not. Some will allow you to post an occasional ad and others will not. Regardless of what the rules are, failure to follow them can result in you being banned from the forum. If that happens, again, ultimately what happens is that your message doesn’t get out to as many people, you don’t build a reputation and you lose money.

What about pay per click advertising with Google? Well, Google has their rules too. One of them is that you can’t place an ad with a link to an affiliate page. Oh you can do it all right, but what happens if you do is that you get hit with high CPC charges and you either go broke trying to compete with everybody else or if you don’t pay them, your ad doesn’t get seen. Again, not following Google’s rules results in a direct loss of income and even possible exorbitant expenses.

Are you seeing a pattern here? In each case of the rules being broken, the end result is that you lose money. This will be the case with most things on the Internet where the rules are broken. In some cases, it can even result in prison. If you think I am kidding, just take a look at that guy from my home state of New Jersey who went to jail for spam.

Rules are there for a reason…like them or not.
