    Is Clickbank Having Problems?

A lot of marketers have been asking me if Clickbank has been having problems of late. They’ve been complaining of a massive drop in sales, mostly from Clickbank hosted products. Well, as a product creator and also as an affiliate marketer, I’m right in there in the middle of the mix. I’ve been doing affiliate marketing for over 5 years and selling my own products for more than 3 years, so I think I am qualified to comment on this subject.

Clickbank is most definitely having their problems…but so is everybody else. In case you haven’t noticed, the economy is in the toilet. People are losing their jobs and their homes and the last thing they’re thinking about right now is buying anything that isn’t a MUST HAVE item.

Having said that, Clickbank seems to be having more issues than most. I’ve been promoting one product through Clickbank for over 5 years now. I have consistently sold between 15 and 20 units each month since that time. That was until October when I only sold 5 units. That’s when I knew something was wrong. Other products I was selling, non Clickbank, were doing great. As a matter of fact, I had my best month of the whole year in October, cracking 14K for the first time. So while the economy is bad, there are people spending money.

Now, as far as what the problem is with Clickbank, it seems to have started with the currency conversions. They now show the dollar amount of your product in the currency of the person’s country where it’s being bought from. In some cases, this can be detrimental. For example, in Great Britain, for a $32 product, people are used to thinking half of that for the British pound or £16. The problem is, a $32 sale is showing up as £20 and that is breaking the £20 barrier, which could be affecting sales.

And Clickbank has made other changes to their tracking system which may be on the fritz. Many vendors are reporting sales for new products even though no hops are being reported. This is very odd.

So, is Clickbank having problems? Possibly. That’s why I tell people not to put all their eggs in one basket. I use Clickbank and PayPal for my own products and also sell affiliate products using quite a few options. This way, if one option dries up or runs into problems, your business doesn’t tank.
