Is SEO a Dying Art?
Filed under: Home Business, Internet Marketing, Make Money Online, seo; Tagged as: internet marketing strategies, internet marketing strategy, seo, strategic internet marketingNo CommentsI’m dead serious when I ask this. See, I remember the good old days when you didn’t even have anything as powerful as Dreamweaver and had to do all your coding by hand. You had to create your own hypertext links and make sure that you got your keywords in their somewhere. Today, you have something like WordPress that does everything for you. Have you taken a look at their All In One SEO Plugin? It’s quite impressive. You don’t even have to think anymore. Just plug and play.
But is this a good thing? Is SEO a dying art and if so, is that looking for trouble? Well, I kind of compare it to calculators in school. Let me explain why.
In school today, kids have calculators for computing everything. It doesn’t matter what the function is. Just plug in the numbers and you have your answer. But do you really? Let’s say you’re doing basic division and you need to divide 10 by 5. Now, if you know how to do the division without the calculator, you know that the answer is 2. But what happens if you don’t know what the answer should be and you accidentally type in.5 instead of 5? You end up with the answer 20. A kid not knowing how to divide will just put that as his answer.
This is why these SEO plugins and automated tools are so bad. You still have to feed the data into them. And if you feed in the WRONG data, well, you can guess what will happen. You will get SEO for the wrong keywords and your site won’t rank correctly. This is why I feel it is important to still understand how to do manual SEO…the old fashioned way.
But, this still doesn’t answer the question. Is SEO a dying art? I would have to say, given all the plugins and things that do it for you automatically, more or less, that it is a dying art. I only know all the old fashioned SEO tricks because when I first started (yes, I’m old) it was all I had. My first site was designed on Notepad. But today, who really needs or WANTS to know this stuff?
Some of you reading this might be saying, “So what? The tools work and I have enough sense to know what words to plug in.”
Well, I sure as heck hope so. Because if you don’t, you’re going to find that your site isn’t as high up the SERPs as you would like.
If they’re even there at all.
