List Building Tips – Above the Fold Must Be Bold
Filed under: Home Business, Internet Marketing, Make Money Online; Tagged as: internet marketing strategies, internet marketing strategy, strategic internet marketingNo CommentsAh, the human eye and the human attention span. Sometimes I think that if we were born as ants we’d never make it beyond one day of life. Imagine having to crawl all over the pavements of the city looking for food. Anyway, this article is going to discuss the importance of your squeeze page above the fold and why it’s critical to getting the most out of your opt in campaign. You’ll have a hard time building a decent sized list without paying close attention to this.
First of all, what do we mean by “above the fold?” Well, that’s the area of the squeeze page that the prospect sees without having to scroll down or hit the page down key on his browser. It is literally the first few seconds of that person’s life on your page. If that area does not attract his attention right away and force him to want to read more, your goose is cooked.
Now, when I say that above the fold must be bold, I don’t literally mean that the font itself has to be bold. What I mean is, it has to have life to it. It has to be worded in such a way that it forces the prospect to take action. I know we’re really getting into the area of copywriting here but it’s important to understand, even for just building a list. Remember, you’re asking somebody to give you their name and email. In order to do that, you have to give them a compelling reason to. In other words…what’s in it for them?
But more importantly, the reason this has to be above the fold, or the first thing they see, is because people are lazy. Heck, I’m lazy. If the first thing that they see doesn’t grab their attention, they’re not going to bother to hit that page down key to see what comes under it. They’re going to click that little X in at the top right hand corner of their browser and head somewhere else.
Now, it is important that you test your squeeze page in as many browsers as you can and at as many screen resolutions as you can. Each browser may render your squeeze page differently. Plus, at some resolutions, what’s above the fold is no longer above the fold at other screen resolutions, depending on how big your header and first paragraph are. This is why I tend to keep my squeeze pages very short and to the point. I don’t want prospects getting bored.
Concentrate on hitting your prospects with your best stuff right up at the top, making sure it’s easily readable with no scrolling, and you’ll find that your opt ins increase considerably.
To YOUR Success,
