List Building Tips – Is There a Generic Way That Works?

Is there a generic way of going about building a list that will work for all niches? It’s a simple enough question. One would think that there SHOULD be. However, the answer is not so simple, for you see…all niches are not alike and therefore behave differently. So what I’m going to do in this article is show you examples where you might have to go about building your list a little differently depending on who it is you’re going after. I hope you find this informative and helpful.

Let’s start off with a favorite niche of mine…how to make money online. Think about what your typical prospect in this niche is looking for. He’s looking for information that will help him generate more income. That’s the bottom line. He’s concerned with one thing and one thing only…making money. So, how would you go about getting him onto your list? Well, you’d probably want to give him a free report, maybe even a newsletter on how to generate more income from home. Simple enough? Sure it is.

But what about the person who is looking for a cure for acne or some kind of other medical condition and you happen to sell a physical product? A report is probably only going to be so helpful. This person is, more likely than not, going to want to try a sample of the product. So, what you would probably want to do when tackling this niche is get them to opt into your list, not only with their email address, but with their home address as well so that you can send them a free 30 day sample. Okay, a little different from the guy who’s looking to make money online.

So as you can see, not all niches are the same and can’t be treated as such. There is no one strategy that is going to fit all niches. You may run into a niche that’s not going to respond to opting onto a list no matter what you give them. For that matter, there may be niches where you simply have nothing to offer and building a list doesn’t even make any sense. Niches that are very tight with very little info to give in the first place won’t make any sense to build. Sending them to the sales page directly is probably your best bet.

Bottom line is this. You have to tailor your list building method to the niche you’re targeting because contrary to popular belief…not all niches are the same.
