I think PageRank was flawed right from the beginning and the growth of eCommerce sites who will not link to each other made it even worse.

However...

It is still true that looking at a page 1 of Google higher PageRank sites will generally beat lower. It&#039;s not quite that simple because backlinks to the page have to be looked at and even domain age but all Research tools like Market Samurai include PageRank ( not page rank ) as one of the important metrics.

It might be that what you are seeing is either Google bringing in so called Trust Rank or even LSI. And that&#039;s another argument for another day!
