In case you’ve been living in a cave, the big thing today, as of this writing anyway, is Frank Kern’s “List Control.” In fact, it’s launching in just a few hours. Okay, so what does this have to do with finding your hook? Well, it’s all in the title of Frank’s new product. And if you don’t see where I’m going with this, keep reading. You will.

I decided to watch Frank’s video on List Control to see what it was all about. I figured it would be all about how to build a responsive list and sell to them. It was. But it was more than that. And when I finally saw through the satin curtain, I realized what Frank had actually done.

If you watch the video, you will see that he actually describes everything that is in List Control. Well, son of a gun. I read through the contents and what do you think I found. List Control was really nothing more than a basic home business course that teaches traffic generation and marketing principles. The sum of its parts is really no different from John Reese’s Traffic Secrets or Nitro Marketing’s Blueprint.

So what IS different? It’s the hook…List Control. The product takes one aspect of the marketing process, list building, and makes that the focus…even though in order to make the most out of it, you still need all the other pieces of the puzzle.

This is what is called finding your hook and it is a very effective way to market, especially in the “make money online” niche.

Okay, so how do you go about finding your hook? Well, it’s really very simple. You need to take a look at the information you are planning to sell as a whole and see what part of that information you can zero in on that people will be interested enough in to spend money on learning.

For example, let’s say you were selling a massive product on playing chess. One aspect of playing chess is winning tournaments. This is, in fact, the ultimate goal of many chess players. So why not take that aspect and make that the focus of your product? You might call the product something like “Chess Tournament Crusher.” Okay, a little corny but you get the idea.

What is going to happen is this. The buyer is going to think that the product is all about winning chess tournaments. And while that is going to be part of the info, it’s still going to contain all the basic chess instruction that they’re going to need such as the rules, openings, mid game and end game strategy and so on. But the hook, “Chess Tournament Crusher,” is what’s going to pull them in.

If you know your product well enough, it’s not hard to come up with a hook.
