There is no better way to increase your income than by creating your own products. Aside from the sales that you make on your own, there are all your affiliates earning money for you as well. But what kind of product should you create? Do you go with text, audio or video? In this article, I’m going to share some personal guidelines that I use for creating my own products. In some cases, you might actually want to do all three.

Let’s start off with text. For one thing, it’s the easiest format to deal with. All you need is a word processor and a way to create a PDF or EXE file. The costs associate with creating a text based product are minimal. So, if your product is going to be low end, meaning around the $27 to $47 range, you probably don’t want to venture into the realm of video or audio. Of course that only covers the cost of the product. But what about the actual content?

Text is best when the content is straight forward and easily understood through the written word. But what if you are creating a product where you’re teaching people how to play golf? Do you really think that a text book is going to do the trick? Don’t you think having a video where you’re showing the customer the golf swing, how to chip, putt, etc. is going to be more effective? I personally do not want to learn golf from a book, if that’s even possible. Video is much better in this case.

What about audio? Well, I find that audio works very well for text based products as there is very little difference between reading the written word or listening to the spoken word. Of course this depends on how fast a person normally reads. Some audio products may be too fast or slow for some people. That’s why the best audio products are made for niches like meditation. A soothing voice for this niche is probably the best product that you could put together…provided you have the tools.

It ultimately comes down to YOUR product and what YOU think is best for it. But the above rule of thumb for each product type should give you a pretty good idea. Just replace golf with bowling, table tennis or whatever the video friendly activity is.
