Well, it was inevitable that I would have to write an article on this subject eventually. With all the scams that I see being perpetrated each day, I felt it was time to write a survival guide for those who are wondering if something is a scam or not. Hopefully, the tips in this article will keep you from falling pray to some of the garbage that is floating around the Internet.

The very first thing you need to do when examining any work from home opportunity is to ask yourself one question. “Does this sound too good to be true?” If the answer is yes, run as fast as you can. Take it from somebody who knows. Making money on the Internet, especially a lot of money, is very hard. So if you see something like “Make $1500 a week working just 1 hour a day” you better believe that it is nothing but a scam.

The next thing you need to do is look at the site in question. Look to see if there is any possible way to contact the person. If there isn’t, most likely this person doesn’t want to be contacted because they know they’re trying to take advantage of people who just don’t know any better. That’s not to say that an email address means the person is legit, but no way to contact is a sure sign that this person is hiding.

The next thing you want to do is see if there have been any complaints filed against this company. You can start with the BBBOnline. If there have been any complaints, they’ll be filed there. No complaints doesn’t mean the site is legit, but it is certainly better than a red flag of complaints a mile long. In that case, it’s a pretty good indication that this company is not to be trusted.

The next thing you want to do is get out into the community of work at home people. Go to forums and ask people about the program or site in question. See what others have to say. Of course everybody has their own agenda, but if a company is really bad, word will get around very fast.

The next thing you want to do, if there is a way to contact the company, is do it. Ask them questions, lots of them. Ask them exactly what has to happen for you to make money. If they can’t come up with a concrete answer or skirt around the subject, then be wary. If they give you an answer like, “You have to bring in members” then that is nothing more than a pyramid scheme and most likely they will end up getting shut down someday.

If you follow just these basic tips, you have a good chance of uncovering at least 90% of the scams that are out there. A lot of it is just common sense. The problem is, when people are desperate to make money, common sense is the first thing to go out the window.
