I probably should have written this under an assumed name because when certain people read this, they’re probably not going to be very happy. Well, that’s okay. I can take the heat. In this installment of my real truth series, I’m going to blow the whistle on the just how these products that are at the top of the Clickbank Marketplace actually get there. It’s not pretty.

If you’re not familiar with how the Clickbank Marketplace works, basically if you go there and choose any of the categories to do a search, the results you’ll get will default to the products that are most popular landing at the top. You can do other searches if you want, but that’s the default, which is really what most affiliates are looking for simply because they want to sell the most popular products. However, what this list doesn’t tell you is how these products got to be at the top. That’s where this article comes in.

It all comes down to promotion, not so much of the product, but of the affiliate opportunity. The more affiliates that promote the product and make sales, the higher the gravity. The higher the gravity, the more popular the product. It’s that simple and it’s probably something that you already knew. But here is what you don’t know and where I’m blowing the whistle on these guys.

Your top products, at least most of them, get launched by large networks. What I mean by a large network is that the products are essentially released by more than one person. One guy will handle product creation, another guy will handle advertising and then another guy, and this is really the critical part, will handle the affiliate recruitment. And the way it works is simple. This one guy has a list of tens of thousands of people. He’ll send them an email and basically say, “Our new product is out…here’s the affiliate link.” And the herd then goes out and starts promoting. The result is that in a matter of days, this product hits the first spot in the Clickbank Marketplace. It has nothing to do with how good the product is.

There will be those who deny this. And that’s fine. I know this to be a fact because I was actually approached by one of these huge networks so I know the inner workings of these things. And don’t get me wrong, this isn’t to knock the process because ultimately you want to build a huge network. That’s how you have success. But don’t think that just because a product is number 1 on the hit parade that it means it’s because it’s a great product. It’s all about promotion.

And that should come as a surprise to nobody.
