Welcome to Internet Marketing Hell
Filed under: Home Business, Internet Marketing, Make Money Online; Tagged as: internet marketing strategies, internet marketing strategy, strategic internet marketingNo CommentsPicture it…2006. You’re about to launch your first product ever. You’ve submitted it to Clickbank. You’ve gotten approval. You have everything setup and ready to go. Your JV partners are all in place. You send out the launch email to your list. And then…it happens. Your site goes down. It has nothing to do with the number of visitors you’ve gotten as nobody’s even had the chance to visit yet. The site just died…period.
Welcome to Internet marketing hell.
We’ve all been there at one time or another. No matter how hard you work or how well you plan, things happen that are just plain out of your control. How you handle the situation, however, will make the difference between keeping your sanity and losing your marbles altogether. In the seven plus years that I’ve been marketing online, I have seen just about everything. The reason I am still sane is because of how I choose to handle these situations.
In this article, I’m going to share a few of the things that I do to keep me sane. These things may or may not work for you. But they’ve made it so that I am still able to do this after all these years and keep a smile on my face. You might want to take this advice to heart.
At the top of my list is a simple philosophy. Some things are out of my control…deal with it. I don’t care how successful you are, how much money you have, or how much clout you think you have with the Internet marketing gods. Stuff is going to happen that you will have no control over. Getting upset about it is not going to help the situation. Stay calm and focus. If you can do that much, you have a great chance of getting through the situation.
Next, take stock of the situation. What exactly has happened and how serious is it really? In the case of a down site, it’s not going to stay down forever. Contact your web host and find out how long they expect the site to be down. Most servers can be restarted pretty fast. Key thing is to make sure you have a contact number for your host. In other words, be prepared.
Finally, there is damage control. In the case of a down server, as soon as you can, contact your list, or whoever you need to contact and let them know that your site is down and that it’s being worked on. Do whatever you can to downplay the problem. You don’t want to panic your list or your JV partners.
Naturally, each situation is going to be different. Maybe a payment processor has dropped you. Fine, get a new one. It’s not hard and it doesn’t take long to sign up with one. There are always alternatives. If you keep your head about you when all around you is going to pot, you can keep yourself from falling victim to Internet marketing hell.
