    I'll tell you, anytime ClickBank updates their terms of service and makes affiliates read them, it brings out all the paranoia. The latest seems to be ClickBank's clarification, or lack thereof, on offering incentives when promoting an affiliate product. Suddenly, you have all these affiliates screaming that they can't offer bonuses anymore. Okay folks, that is NOT what ClickBank is saying. So let me clear this up right here and now. ClickBank specifically says, in its TOS, that an affiliate may not offer any incentives such as rebates, coupons or cash incentives when promoting a product as an affiliate. It says nothing about offering an eBook as a bonus for purchasing through your affiliate link. And the ironic part is, this section is not even a new part of their TOS. It has been in their since the beginning of time. You've never been able to offer rebates, coupons or cash incentives when promoting their products. But intangible goods, such as eBooks or even a membership to your site, are perfectly acceptable. So for example, let's say you're promoting a ClickBank product that shows the customer how to play blackjack at the casinos. You want to get a jump on all the other affiliates, so you offer, as a bonus, your own book on how to play roulette and slots. Since these are other games that many gamblers play, in addition to blackjack, there is a very good chance that they will buy the ClickBank product from you in order to get those bonuses. This is perfectly legit. If you have any doubts, call up ClickBank and ask. You can get it straight from the horse's mouth. I'm not going to try to even speculate as to why ClickBank doesn't allow rebates, coupons or cash incentives, even if the money is coming from your own pocket. The point is, that's what it says in their TOS and that's the end of it. Don't do it. However, there is nothing wrong with offering that eBook you have, as long as you have the right to offer it, as an incentive. I do this with many of the products that I promote. In fact, what you might want to do in order to really seal the deal is to write up a review of the product first, so that the prospect can get a decent idea of what they'll be getting and THEN, at the end of the review, offer your eBook as a bonus if they purchase from you.     I get a real kick out of affiliate marketers. They'll try every trick in the book just to make a sale. Some of them are not very pretty. Well, let me ask you a question. Have you ever tried just keeping it real? That might be a foreign concept to some people. Hopefully it's not to you. But if it is, read this article. It will provide you with a few things you can do to not only keep it real but actually make more sales from the process. This isn't going to apply to every product you sell but a great way to keep things real is by actually writing a REAL review on the product. Now, if you're selling dog food and you don't have a dog and no need for the product, you can't write a review on it. But for products that you CAN use, use it. Even if that means you have to buy it. If buying a $97 product could mean thousands of dollars in sales as an affiliate, isn't that $97 purchase worth it? Too many affiliate marketers look at this purchase as unnecessary. They couldn't be more off the mark if they tried. But writing a review doesn't mean you rave about the product like it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. People are sick and tired of that and can see right through it. So how about trying this on for size. I don't care what the product is. NO product is perfect. I have found at least one problem with every product I have ever tried out. Guess what? When I review the product, I also include what I DON'T like about the product. Now THAT is keeping it real. Think that's going to kill sales? You can't imagine how many people write to me to thank me for my honest review, right before they go and purchase it. Finally, and this is something that you really need to be more transparent about now that the FTC is cracking down on affiliate marketers, you should try being up front about the fact that you're actually promoting this product in the hope that you'll make a sale from doing so. That's right. Tell people that you're an affiliate for the product. I do. In fact, I tell people that if they buy from me I'll give them a special bonus that they can't get from anyone else. Call it an ethical bribe. Trust me...it works. There is no reason why you have to try to con people into buying things from you. If you're promoting a product that solves a real problem and can show how, you're going to make more than your share of sales. Try it sometime. You might be surprised at the results.     Affiliate marketers are the laziest bunch of people I have ever seen in my life. Toss up some link somewhere and call it a day. That's not marketing. That's not even funny. Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating just a bit, but the truth is, many affiliates don't know how to promote products. They don't know how to separate themselves from the rest of the pack. This article is going to talk about one way to do that, by preselling, which is something I have been doing for years. I was inspired to write this article thanks to a great report that I just read by Nick Brighton. When he releases his report you really need to check it out. It reminded me of why I'm so successful as an affiliate marketer. But I digress. Okay, so what exactly is preselling? Preselling is essentially giving your prospect a little info about the product that you're trying to sell BEFORE they actually get to the sales page. See, most affiliate marketers won't do this. They'll send the prospect directly to the sales page in an effort to make the sale. Now don't get me wrong, this can work in the right situations. A good sales page SHOULD do a decent job of converting. But what if you're competing with thousands of other affiliates? What separates you from them? In other words, it's the same sales page so why should the prospect buy from YOUR affiliate link? That is why we presell. How do we do this? Well, I'm not going to go into a ton of detail in an article. This is easily a 50 page book to explain in detail, but in a nutshell we want to do several things. First, we want to make sure that the traffic that we're sending to the sales page is any good to begin with. Next, we want to understand exactly what it is that these people are looking for so we know what buttons to push. Finally, we want to setup a presell page (there are many options here) that will give us the best chance of THEN getting that prospect to the sales page with the intent to buy. That is the process in a nutshell. The actual steps are quite involved. Essentially, you need to learn to become a pretty decent copywriter. I'm not going to lie to you. Preselling correctly takes work. That is why a lot of affiliate marketers just don't do it. But that is also why the ones who DO presell have an advantage. See, after a prospect sees the presell, they are more emotionally prepared to buy from you. Selling is all about appealing to the emotions. Many marketers don't get that. So, if you're a lazy affiliate like most are, you might want to consider this option. Even just writing up a review of the product (yes, you have to get a copy first) and honestly critiquing it can put you light years ahead of most other affiliates.     What you are about to read is my comprehensive review of Nick Brighton's Presell Secrets. I was very interested in looking over this product because, as an affiliate marketer, I use preselling for all my affiliate promotions. As a result, I finish near the top of every affiliate contest I enter. So I wanted to see if Nick covered everything. I was ready to tear this report to shreds because I was convinced I knew it all. Nick made me feel like a hack amateur after reading this report. Sure, some of the basic stuff I knew, but ultimately what this report really is, is a condensed copywriting course. Ultimately, that's what a presell really is...just another form of copywriting. Well, in that area, Nick obviously knows his stuff...in spades. But let me get to the report itself. Nick starts off with something that I didn't expect in a presell report...qualifying traffic. And let me make this very clear, this report will do you MORE good if you already know HOW to get traffic to your site. The greatest presell page in the world is worthless with no traffic. Okay, this report is NOT a traffic generation report. If getting traffic is your problem, fix that before you start working on this. However, Nick DOES show you how to qualify your traffic which will help in increasing your conversions. There are some great ways to do this and Nick covers them. He then explains what to look for in a product itself when picking one to promote, especially how to look at a sales page. As a copywriter, I would expect him to know a good sales page when he sees one. He'll show you how to spot them as well. Finally (yeah, it took some time) Nick gets into how to write your presell. He really dives into emotional triggers and what they are. This part of the report is extremely detailed and is NOT a light read. There is a lot to absorb here. So this is where I'm just going to be right up front about this information. Writing a presell takes a lot of work. You can't just toss up any old review (and Nick goes into the different types of reviews you can write) and expect results. You have to go through all the steps that Nick outlines and do all the research on your market and product to know what the market responds to. In other words, if you are looking for a plug n play solution to writing presell pages, save your money. But if you seriously read this book and apply it, I will almost personally guarantee that your conversions increase considerably unless you're picking a product that's an absolute dog or attacking a marketing that has no real demand. On a scale of 1 to 10, I give this report a 10. Yes, it is that good. And if I wasn't semi retired right now, I'd actually take some of this stuff and try it out on some of my old presell pages to see if it increases my conversions, which are already pretty good. Honestly, I am almost tempted to pay Nick for this copy. Yes, it was given to me to review, but trust me, if I thought it sucked, I'd tell you. My reputation means too much to me. Bottom line: If you are either thinking of using the presell for your affiliate promotions or want to increase the effectiveness of your presells, then I am 100% sure that this book will help considerably.     Let me start off by saying that there is nothing wrong with being stats conscious. However, some people really take this to an extreme. When you start to allow your affiliate promotions to be solely dictated by stats with absolutely no room for human decision, that's when you run into trouble. This article is going to go into three areas that I think people get way too hung up on when they decide to promote or not promote a product. I think you'll want to give this some thought. At the top of my list is gravity. I know affiliate marketers who won't even go near a product unless there are hundreds of other affiliates successfully promoting the product already. Conversely, I know people who won't promote a product unless nobody knows about it. They want to be the FIRST affiliate on the block. There are hazards to both approaches. With a heavily promoted product, you're going up against a lot of big competition. That won't be easy. With a brand new product, you have no idea if it's even going to sell. Point is, you need to look at your own marketing skills and the market itself to determine whether or not to sell something...not just the gravity. Another stat affiliate marketers get hung up on is conversion percentage of the sales page, not that this is even so easy to find out. Most product creators either don't keep accurate stats, inflate them, or, if they're not good, won't share them. Conversion percentage can be EASILY killed by one affiliate sending tons of non targeted traffic to a sales page. So forget about this as a guide for whether or not you're going to sell a product. It's not anywhere near a reliable indicator. Finally, we have dollars per sale. I can't believe how inflexible some affiliates are on this. They either won't sell anything unless it's a big ticket item of several hundred dollars or won't touch anything over $47 because they're afraid they can't sell a big ticket item. There is a market for every priced product. Your ability to sell it has nothing to do with the price but your own marketing skills.. And for those who won't touch cheaper items, the volume you can create from these items can more than make up for the low price. Point is, too many people get hung up on stats and because of this, they restrict their opportunities. By being a little more open minded about things, you might find that you actually end up making more sales. It's certainly something to consider.     We all know it went on and probably still does. I'm talking about all the backslapping done in regard to affiliate marketing. You know, you promote my product and I'll promote yours. It's as old as the oldest profession. Okay, maybe not THAT old, but it's old. Well, like it or not, those days are going to be coming to a grinding halt. Why is that you ask? Good question. The answers will be provided. I'm not going to call out anybody here or mention any names, but go take a look at some of the big boy's sales pages and you'll notice something very interesting. Marketer A has a testimonial on HIS page from Marketer B and Marketer B has a testimonial on HIS page from Marketer A. Yeah, you know what I'm talking about. And like I said, this has been going on FOREVER. The old boy's club, as they call it, is about to come crashing down. Why? I'll explain. The FTC has just put the lid on testimonials. Requirements for them are going to be a lot tougher than they used to be. Typical results now have to be revealed OR the testimonial itself has to be qualified as in, "This person did such and such to get these results." When people have to start putting on their sales pages something like this... "Well, you see...it's like this. John Doe is really a seven figure a year marketer and the reason he had such great success with my product is because, well...he had like a zillion dollars to spend on advertising. So yeah, that kind of makes a big difference" ...the credibility starts to take a BIG hit. You see where I am going with this, right? If not, let me spell it out. The reason why affiliate marketers promote each other's products is BECAUSE of testimonials like these. They KNOW that they're going to increase sales DRAMATICALLY. So when they email their list or whatever it is they do to promote, it's almost like printed money. Now that the rules have changed, it's not going to be so easy to get those sales. So affiliate marketers are going to have to be more select about what they promote. In other words, they're going to have to start promoting products that are actually good. Wow...that's a novel concept. Personally, I think this is all for the better. It's about time this industry got cleaned up. Maybe now we can start selling products that actually DO something.     There are two kinds of affiliate marketers. This article is going to briefly describe each one and then make a suggestion as to which one you should be. The world of marketing is getting tougher and tougher. People are becoming more and more skeptical. It's not so easy to get folks to part with their hard earned money, the value of which is getting less and less everyday. So as an affiliate marketer, you need to go that little extra mile if you want to be successful. Okay, so what are the two types of affiliate marketers? The first type, the more common one, and the one I don't recommend, is the one who tosses up an affiliate link through a social networking site, maybe a forum or social bookmarking site, directs people directly to a sales page and puts in absolutely no effort to try to give the prospect a little more information to help them make a decision. In an email marketing campaign, they'll go no farther than to say, "Hey, check out this great product." That's the kind of affiliate marketer you DON'T want to be. Then we have the second type. This is the guy who will get a copy of the product, even if he has to buy it himself. He'll go over the whole thing from top to bottom and write a comprehensive review of it and put it up on his blog. Maybe he'll even do a video review and upload it to YouTube. At social networking sites, he'll provide some solid information about the product so that people can make an informed decision. He won't send links directly to the sales page but to his blog and video reviews. He'll build a list of subscribers so that he can give them MORE information. He'll go above and beyond what most affiliates will do. I guess I don't have to tell you that the second type of affiliate marketer is the one YOU want to be. Sure, it's a little more work, but in this day and age, it's going to take a little bit more work to get the job done. You can do it...or not. The choice, as they say, is entirely up to YOU.
