Protecting your stuff from thieves is one of the most frustrating things you will do as an Internet marketer. Some things you just can’t prevent, no matter what you do. However, you don’t have to make it easy for these crooks to steal our stuff. In this article, I’m going to give you a few helpful tips to keep your digital products from getting stolen right out from under your nose. If you take these few precautions, you’ll find that you’ll have fewer thefts and make more money in the process.

Without spending a boat load of money, one thing you can do to cut down on the number of thefts of your product is simply to change the URL of your download page on a regular basis. How regular? Well, that’s up to you. I’d recommend at least once a month. This way, if anybody does give out the URL of your download page, that URL won’t be of much use when the next month rolls around. Also, putting a noindex meta tag inside the HTML of the page itself will also keep it from being indexed in the major search engines.

If you have a little money to spend, I suggest getting a download guard script. There are many of these on the market. Essentially the way they work is very simple. You set up your product download in the script along with where the product is located on your server and then, when somebody makes a purchase, the script generates, on the fly, a download page that they can access. This page will never be indexed and after a certain amount of time, that YOU determine, the page itself won’t even be accessible. This is the best way to protect your downloads.

These are by no means full proof. There is nothing stopping a purchaser of your product from then taking the product and putting it up on his site or some other site and either selling it illegally or giving it away, if he so chooses. But these methods will literally stop people from accessing your product off of your server illegally, especially if you use the download guard script.

Yeah, protecting your stuff from thieves is not fun. Hopefully, these simple tips will make it harder for those who would steal our hard earned money from us.
