I’ve been waiting for this installment for a long time. In my Internet marketing, A-Z series, I am finally up to the letter J and one of the most important things to becoming a successful Internet marketer. I’m talking about joint ventures. And the reason it’s so important is because there is only so much one person can do on his own. This article is going to explain the importance of joint ventures and then point you to where you can get more info on just how to nail the joint venture of your dreams.

A joint venture, contrary to what many marketers believe, is when two or more marketers get together and create and market a product collectively. Emailing “Joe Blow Guru” and saying, “Hey, will you promote my product for me?” is NOT a joint venture. That is simply getting an affiliate for your product. It is NOT the same thing. Okay, I just wanted to make that clear right from the start. The question is, why is a joint venture so important?

There are many answers to that question, but the simplest and most important one is leverage. The best way to explain this is with an example. Let’s say you have a great product idea but you don’t have much of a list and you could also use some help with some of the creation aspects. Now, you contact the marketer of your choice, present your JV proposal, they accept and NOW, you get this person’s expertise in the area where you are weak AND you get their list to market to as well. This is called leverage and it’s a powerful thing. In the meantime, the other marketer gets your great product idea and a chance to make more money from it by marketing to this big list of his.

Another important aspect of joint ventures is time. There is only so much of it available to you. By pooling your resources with other marketers, you can get things done a lot faster. Suddenly, a 24 hour day essentially becomes a 48 hour day or longer, depending on how many people you have working. It’s almost like cloning yourself. Better…if the people you’re working with are even more talented than yourself.

Naturally, getting as joint venture takes some doing. You have to have something to offer and you have to know just how to approach these people. Many marketers don’t have a clue in this area. Well, in my signature you’ll find a resource that will fill in all the missing pieces for you.

A joint venture may very well be the most important thing you can do for your business.

No man is an island. I know it’s an old cliche, but it’s so true. If you really want to succeed in this business and take your marketing efforts to the next level, you MUST build relationships. This article is going to do two things. The first, is share my personal relationships and how they have helped me and the second is to show you how to build your own. This article is going to be a little longer than normal, but it is important reading if you REALLY want success.

My first relationship online was with a copywriter named Andrew Cavanagh. This came about quite unexpectedly. I guess he saw something in me because he offered to help me with my copywriting. That lead to me not only becoming a much better copywriter but to us actually doing business together. I consider Andrew a good friend now.

My second relationship online was with a gentleman by the name of John Rhodes. I approached John, after he had made an excellent post at one of the forums I hang out at, and his response was one I never expected. He offered to work on a project together with me. Well, the result has been thousands of dollars in income for the both of us. John I also now consider a good friend and he’s a pleasure to work with.

My third relationship was with a gentleman by the name of Justin Michie. Justin is a really bright kid who gave me some great ideas for a product. Together, we came out with a guide to product creation that sold quite well on a limited release. I am sure Justin and I will be doing more things in the future. In this case, Justin approached me and I was more than happy to work with him.

There are more, but I’ll stop here. Okay, how did all these come about? The answer is very simple. When you give of yourself to others, they are more likely to give something back in return. I offered John Rhodes my services, no strings attached. I figured I’d make the first move. Well, John was so impressed with my offer that he made a counter offer to simply work together. It may have been the smartest thing either of us has done to date.

The key is not to approach people and demand things of them. Writing to somebody and saying, “Hey, can you promote my product for me” is not the way to make friends. Writing to them and saying, “How can I help you” is the way to make friends.

It’s really that simple. And once you learn this lesson, you will find that building relationships online is easier than you ever imagined.

I love some of the discussions at the Warrior Forum. Eric Louviere came up with a great post the other day for new people to get started. One of the things he mentioned was going big fast. It’s not really something I ever thought about until today. See, I was always a slow and steady kind of guy. but the more I think about how I got to where I am, I could have easily gotten here quicker if I had thought big right away. Eric shared some tips on how to do that and I’m going to add my two cents to the mix.

One of the things he mentioned was building relationships with others. He said that most of the big names on the Internet got to where they are because they built relationships with others. This is very true. Problem is, Eric didn’t go into much detail on how to do this so that’s where I am going to throw in my two cents. I am speaking now from my own personal experience in this business.

The best way to build relationships with others is to always be thinking, “what’s in it for them?” If you can’t give the other person a good solid reason for why they’d want to do business with you, guess what? They won’t. I know this seems very cold and calculated but it’s the way things are. A lot of these big names just don’t have the time to deal with others, especially if those others are only thinking of themselves. So when I approach a big name, I am always thinking about what I can do for them.

Once you are able to establish a relationship with a big name, your increase in income is going to be massive. This happens because you are leveraging each other’s assets. Surely you’re bringing something to the table, whether it be a product, list or whatever. Remember, what’s in it for them? Once your first project together is a success, it opens up opportunities for other projects. From there, things just snowball.

This is one way of going big fast. There are others, but this is the easiest. Don’t be afraid to approach a big name as long as you have something to offer them.

This is one of the biggest complaints I hear from people. “Mommy, the big boys won’t play with me.” By big boys, I’m referring to the ones in Internet marketing who are making the big bucks. Everybody and their grandmother wants the so called “guru” to pitch his or her latest and greatest creation. And then, when that doesn’t happen, they whine about it. Well, there is a reason why that doesn’t happen…actually many reasons. This article will explain the main ones and how to get around them. Yes, you CAN get the big boys to play with you if you play THEIR game.

First mistake marketers make, and this is the killer, is they simply write to these big guns and flat out ask them for some kind of joint venture. “Hey, I got this great product. How about promoting it for me?” This is NOT the way to go about it. A better approach would be to actually get to know the person first. Maybe go to a seminar and meet them in person. Then, send them an email and ask them if there is something you can do for them to help them out. You’d be surprised how far this approach can take you.

Another reason why the big boys don’t play with you is because they just don’t have the time. Think about it. These are very successful people and they get bombarded with JV requests all the time. If they responded to each request, they’d never get any work done. And make no mistake about it…they have TONS of work to do. So what you might want to do in order to get around this is to send them a very polite email telling them that you know they’re very busy and would appreciate, at their leisure, if they would look over your product and let you know what they think. Tell them there is no rush on this and thank them for their time. You’ll be surprised how well this approach works.

Another reason the big boys won’t play with you, and this is not to be rude or anything like that, but you’re a total nobody. I mean you’ve never even sold ONE unit of a product you’ve created. You are nowhere on the radar at all. At least build up a little bit of a name for yourself. Sell a few units of something. Create a product, get it sold and show these people what you’ve done. Show them some testimonials that you have. Let them see that you DO create quality products. They might be more receptive to working with you.

It’s not easy to get the big boys to play with you, but if you follow the above suggestions, it does get a whole lot easier.

When I was growing up, one of the first lessons I learned was that the only person you could really depend on was yourself. However, it never hurts to try to land yourself a joint venture or two along the way. Not only can it increase your income in the short run, but in the long run, it will develop relationships to last a lifetime. The key is knowing how to go about getting a joint venture. This is where most people have their problems. This article is going to try to solve those problems by giving you a few tips that should greatly help in landing you the joint venture you’ve been looking for. Hopefully, after reading this, you’ll be well armed to go out there and land the deal of a lifetime.

Most people think that in order to land a joint venture that is worth anything at all, it has to be done with one of the big boys of marketing. That’s their first mistake. Many profitable joint ventures can be made with marketers who are in the mid range level of success, and approaching them isn’t as hard as people make it out to be, even if you are brand new. The key is knowing how to approach them.

So how do you approach somebody for a joint venture? Actually, you don’t. No, this isn’t a trick question and it isn’t double talk. There is actually a fool proof way to land a joint venture with somebody. You may not land it right away, or even land it with the first person you approach, but by using the method I am about to outline, you will find more people open to a joint venture than you can possibly imagine. The key is how you approach them and this is it.

Decide who it is that you want to have a joint venture with. Then, write to the person and don’t ask them for a joint venture, but offer this person your services. Tell them what your qualifications are. Don’t hype yourself up. Give it to them straight. For example, when I approach somebody for a joint venture, I write to them and tell them that I am a writer. I tell them my credentials, what I’ve done and then I tell them that I am offering my services, no strings attached. That’s right. Offer to do something for this person to show them the quality of your work, whatever it is.

Ultimately, what will happen more times than not is the person will write back to you, let you know what they could use and wait for your reply. Unless the request is totally unreasonable, and only you can be the judge of that, go ahead and do it. Down the road, weeks, maybe even months, this person will write back to you with their own offer for a joint venture proposal. Why? They will have seen, not only the quality of your work, but the integrity of your character as well.

Yes, there are some sacrifices to be made as far as your time is concerned, and you may get people who don’t even give you a thank you, but this is by far the best way to get a joint venture with somebody.

I know it works for me.
