What are you going to do when your boss says “You’re Fired!” and you haven’t planned ahead? Have you even given it a thought? Let’s be honest here. The economy stinks and people are losing their jobs left and right. Maybe you haven’t given it much thought. Maybe you have. In either case, I’m going to offer some suggestions just in case that fateful day should ever arrive.

You may have never given it any thought, but working from home may just be your ticket out of the rat race. I was a victim of the “You’re Fired!” crowd myself. I lost my job on December 31, 2009. I never looked back. At my age, there was no way I was going to find work again. So I took to working from home. It didn’t happen right away. I needed some time to figure out just what I wanted to do. But once I did, I went full speed ahead. But what about you?

Well, there are quite a few things you can do from home. Home businesses cover many areas. One of the most common is freelancing. If you have any kind of skill, such as writing, program or graphic design, there is plenty of demand for people with those skills. Some copywriters online earn as much as $15,000 for one sales letter or more. No, you don’t start off at those prices, but you can easily work your way up to them if you have the talent.

Another thing you can do from home is get into sales. There are tons of products online that you can sell as an affiliate. You can sell physical products or you can sell what they call virtual products, or digital goods. The beauty of these is that there is no physical inventory and you can sell them virtually forever and never have to worry about running out of stock. I’ve been selling digital info products for years.

If you like, you could put together a web site that offers a monthly membership providing some kind of a service to people. There are many services online that help a number of people. For example, one service that I use is Aweber. They are an autoresponder service that I use to send messages to the people on my mailing list. This service helps me earn thousands of dollars monthly because of all the people I can reach without having to worry about spam complaints.

Point is, working from home gives you the kind of security that a job can’t give you…not anymore. I have too often been the victim of downsizing and companies going out of business. It happens. It’s a fact of life. So you might want to consider planning for your future by considering your own home business.

If you have a plan in place BEFORE the boss says “You’re Fired!” you just might save yourself a lot of grief in the long run.
